New York, New York!

I went to New York in the beginning of October and stayed with friends in Brooklyn. I have never been, and fell in love. Of course. Here's some things I was really inspired by.

The Garment District:

MOOD! This was the silk section. There are millions of sections. It's overwhelming.
I loved this silk charmuese sailor print in both colors!
I loved this black and white charmuese as well.
I have this charmeuse in the pink, but loved seeing it's brothers and sisters.
The trimming and notions stores are huge and to die for. I spent most of my time in these smaller shops.
A furrier. A FURRIER. Next to a Kosher Pizza/Sushi place. Naturally.
There were many polyester stretch houses. Though I love spandex, most of it was pretty crappy or had a strange print. But I loved all of the colors!
I had to show how bad this corset was in a sex shop. Sooo aweful! $54.99!
There were a ton of these classy shops. I didn't go into any of them, though.
A store in soho had great decor including this wall of sewing machines.
In Chinatown all the fruit vendors had these amazing textural fruit.
I loved this poster, and the color palette. This picture doesn't do it justice.
Midtown had these advertisements Andy Warhol did in the fifties and sixties. This was my favorite. "Hand in Hand with the Chemise: The Pretty Glove."
The Ballet had these amazing large lights, they looked like rhinestones to me. My size rhinestones.

How I love wigs. Gran Mercier area.
Meat Packing District window display.
Our friends Brian and Nicole's windows in their artist loft in Brooklyn. I loved their studio!

I can't wait to go back!

  1. Camille, glad to see you finally got to New York! I am originally from Jersey, so I'm used to having the city in my backyard, and let's say I miss it dearly! That wall of sewing machines reminds me of that new store that just opened up on 5th and Pine, though I can't remember the name of it. You should check it out! Hope all is well with you. :-)
